Hull City Council is looking for exceptional individuals like you to join the Integrated Physical and Sensory Service - IPASS team. If you have experience of working with children and young people with Special Educational Needs, specifically Deaf children and have excellent communication skills, then we have an exciting opportunity for you.
We are seeking to recruit a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to our friendly and hardworking IPaSS Primary Resource Base for Deaf Children, based at Christopher Pickering Primary School.
British Sign Language (BSL) level 1 and 2 qualification is desirable or a willingness to train to this level* (on an evening). An NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification is desired, along with skills and experience of working within a primary school setting.
*The service will fund the qualification if the successful appointee does not already hold it.
Duties include:
Supporting deaf children in their learning environment and enabling their access to the lesson content.
planning, preparing and delivering learning activities for individuals/groups under the supervision of a Qualified Teacher of the Deaf.
assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ achievement, progress and development.
using your initiative, as an ability to adjust activities according to pupil responses/needs is necessary.
establishing productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
It is imperative that the successful candidate promotes and safeguards the welfare of children and young people they are supporting.
Duties will also include establishing constructive relationships and communicating with other agencies/ professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support the achievement and progress of pupils
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of IT based systems, including Microsoft Office. A friendly and professional manner is essential as you will be dealing with children and young people, parents, school staff and external organisations.
