Part-Time Personal Assistant
A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I’m a 91-year-old woman living in Aberdare with my daughter. I am a sweet, happy and kind. I have dementia and some days are better days than others in terms of mood and well-being. I mostly stay in bed now but can mobilise to use the toilet. I do need assistance to do this. I have carers coming in for personal care but sometimes you might need to help them to mobilise me on/off the bed.
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
You will provide respite for my daughter who I live with. She will be your employer. The role is to provide a sitting service whilst she is at work or goes out.
HOURS OF WORK
6.25 hours per week
Flexibility is essential – days and times will differ each week
Willing to pick up extra hours to cover absence/holidays of my other PA
RATES OF PAY
£13.50 per hour
TASKS WILL INCLUDE
I require constant supervision; ensuring my well-being and safety at all times
Preparing light meals for me at home
Encouraging me to maintain a good diet by ensuring I eat and drink what is given to me
Completing jigsaw puzzles with me
Engaging me in conversation
Enjoying a cup of tea with me at home
Keeping all living areas clean to a high standard, especially the area where I sit as I tend to drop food
Washing dishes after meals
Assisting with medication and keeping record
Watching TV with me and providing company and conversation
During each shift you will keep a clear and detailed record of what has happened on shift – what has been eaten, general well-being, mood etc
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
You must have a confident and direct approach in communication
You’ll be able to lead and initiate conversations, actively keeping me engaged
Be able to give reassurance and guidance when needed
Patience is essential – especially to make sure I am eating and drinking
Experience with dementia is preferred, either personal or work-related
You must be flexible, understanding that shifts, days and times may change with short notice
Someone with an understanding of food hygiene
Basic understanding of safe manual handling techniques
Confidentiality is extremely important in this role
Respect for rules within the house – the upstairs is off-limits
A car owner/driver who is willing to use car for work purposes
ABOUT THE JOB
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a monthly basis and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
