We have an opportunity for an experienced R&M (Repair and Maintenance) Water Team Leader to join our operational team covering Lenham and the surrounding areas. This role is responsible for leading field teams delivering repair and maintenance activities across the clean water network, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and to the required standards.
Working closely with supervisors, planners, clients, and operational teams, you will coordinate day-to-day activities on site while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and customer service.
The Role
You will lead operational crews undertaking reactive and planned maintenance works, supporting the effective delivery of programmes while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company procedures. The role requires strong organisational skills, practical leadership, and the ability to manage changing site priorities.
Here are some of the activities you will be involved in...
- Leading and supervising teams carrying out repair and maintenance works on the water network
- Planning and coordinating daily workloads to ensure efficient delivery of scheduled and reactive activities
- Supporting leak detection, repairs to water mains and service pipes, and associated excavation works
- Ensuring Signing, Lighting and Guarding (SLG) is installed and maintained in accordance with Chapter 8 requirements
- Promoting and maintaining high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance on site
- Monitoring work quality and ensuring works are completed to specification and within programme requirements
- Liaising with planners, supervisors, subcontractors, and client representatives to coordinate activities
- Completing site documentation, job records, and photographic evidence accurately
- Supporting and mentoring operatives to maintain performance and safe working practices
- Managing customer and public interactions professionally, resolving issues where required

You have proven experience within the water, utilities, or civil engineering sector, with a strong background in repair and maintenance operations and previous experience leading field teams. You will demonstrate confident leadership skills, the ability to organise workloads effectively, and a proactive approach to maintaining safe and productive sites.
You will hold essential qualifications including Street Works (NRSWA) accreditation, a full UK driving licence with towing capability, Cat & Genny training, First Aid certification, Abrasive Wheels training, and Water Hygiene accreditation. You should be confident working within live highway environments and managing teams in accordance with industry standards and safety requirements.
Additional training in Manual Handling, Deep Excavation or Safe Excavation, Asbestos Awareness, and Face Fit testing would be advantageous but are not essential.
Strong communication skills are important, along with the ability to work collaboratively with operational teams and clients while supporting the development of operatives and maintaining consistent performance standards.
