Summary

Back Shift Transport Controller
Castle Vale, Birmingham
40 hours per week
Monday – Friday
13:00 – 22:00 (1-hour unpaid lunch break)
£28,000 – £30,000 per annum (depending on experience)

Our client is seeking a proactive and organised Back Shift Transport Controller to join their busy logistics operation based in Castle Vale, Birmingham. This is an excellent opportunity for someone experienced within transport and logistics, with clear scope to develop and progress as the business continues to grow.

This office-based role plays a key part in ensuring smooth daily transport operations, supporting drivers, managing consignments, and maintaining high standards of service, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee live fleet activity to ensure delivery times are achieved and drivers’ hours and breaks remain compliant.
• Conduct daily driver briefings and debriefings, using telematics data to monitor driving performance and identify training needs.
• Manage consignments throughout the shift, ensuring statuses are accurately tracked and updated.
• Provide support to the Customer Services team by responding to internal and external queries in a timely and professional manner.
• Maintain clear communication with drivers and relevant teams to ensure smooth operations.
• Deliver detailed and accurate shift handovers to ensure continuity of service.
• Proactively identify and resolve operational issues as they arise.
• Promote a strong focus on safety, service, and efficiency at all times.

Essential Experience & Skills:

• Strong organisational skills with the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
• Confident communicator, comfortable briefing drivers and liaising with multiple stakeholders.
• Proactive, solutions-focused mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet operational deadlines.
• High attention to detail when updating systems and tracking consignments.
• Comfortable working in an office-based transport environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop within the role.
• Strong team player with the ability to work independently when required.
