Summary

This is a permanent role on an annualised hour contract of 975 hours, worked on a rota throughout the year. The role will require weekend, bank holiday and out of season availability.

Starting Salary FTE £24,862.50 (Pro rata: 12,431.25), we’re currently undertaking our pay review process and it is likely that this salary will be increased from 1st April 2026.

This role is based on annualised hours, where the amount of hours you work each month may vary, however your salary will be paid in 12 equal instalments over the year.
What it's like to work here
Reporting to the Senior Visitor Experience Officer, you will be part of an enthusiastic, supportive team working at Montacute House, part of the South Somerset Property Group. There could be some cross Property Group working.

Montacute house is located in the centre of the picturesque Montacute village. This beautiful Elizabethan Ham stone manor house is surrounded by formal gardens, lawns, orchards, parkland and overlooked by the ancient St Micheal's hill all of which having been in the care of the National Trust since the early 1930's.

Having featured in many feature films as well as TV programs and famous for its beauty Montacute House attracts over 150,000 visitors per year (the largest in the portfolio) and is open 363 days per year.

Started in early 2026 the house is currently seeing a major project in repairing and strengthening both staircases. This project is exciting as it will open the house up to be accessed on all levels yet again.

What you'll be doing
The role of Service Team Member is varied and requires adaptability as no day will be the same and you will be required to work flexibly over the site and between departments. The role will be based mainly outdoors and will involve at times some lifting and handling. You will be directly involved in maintaining high presentation standards by cleaning and clearing visitor areas. You will assist and support other onsite teams when needed, this will include and is not limited to; opening and closing the house, room guiding when volunteers are short, leading group walks and other assigned visitor tours and welcome visitors at the reception/directing in the car park.

Also included is providing information to visitors for their visit, sharing knowledge about the site and the National Trust, talk about membership, and selling it, serving and selling refreshments in the café, supporting with the setup of visitor trails, sorting books for the second hand bookshop and support the garden team with assigned tasks.
