Summary
Community Care Coordinator
Job Description
Job title: Community Care Coordinator (Part-time)
Reports to: Rabbi (line management). Works closely with the Safeguarding Lead and Synagogue Administrator (as applicable).
Purpose of the role: To coordinate synagogue welfare support for vulnerable members through planned check-ins, practical coordination with Network Coordinators, regular check-ins with volunteers who are already engaged in such activities, accurate confidential record-keeping, and safe escalation of concerns in line with safeguarding and GDPR.
Key responsibilities
1. Pastoral coordination and member contact
• Maintain a structured contact plan for vulnerable members (frequency tiers agreed with the Rabbi).
• Conduct regular check-ins by phone, email, or text and arrange follow-ups.
• Provide a warm, consistent point of contact for practical needs and community connection (not counselling or therapy).
• After consultation with the rabbi, arrange and carry out appropriate visits (home, hospital, care home) in line with synagogue policy and safeguarding practice.
2. Confidential database and administration (GDPR compliant)
• Maintain a secure, accurate database of members receiving support, including consent status, preferred contact methods, and relevant needs.
• Log contacts, actions, outcomes, and follow-up dates.
• Ensure information sharing follows agreed protocols and 'need-to-know' principles.
3. Safeguarding, risk awareness, and escalation
• Recognise and act on safeguarding concerns using the synagogue’s safeguarding policy and escalation pathway.
• Escalate urgent welfare concerns immediately to the Rabbi and/or Safeguarding Lead (and emergency services where appropriate).
• Maintain appropriate boundaries and refer members to professional services where needed.
4. Working closely with the Rabbi
• Hold a regular case-review meeting.
• Provide a short-written update (numbers contacted, urgent concerns, actions pending, capacity issues).
• Support the Rabbi’s pastoral overview by ensuring no one falls through the cracks.
Hours and working pattern
Part-time: 3 days per week (with a consistent pattern agreed). Some flexibility around key communal moments (e.g., before Shabbat or major festivals) by prior agreement.
Boundaries
The post holder:
• Is not a clinician, therapist, solicitor, or social worker.
• Does not provide financial advice or handle personal finances.
• Does not operate as an out-of-hours emergency service.
• Shares personal data only on a strict need-to-know basis under GDPR and safeguarding policy.
Person specification
Essential
• Strong interpersonal skills; ability to speak with sensitivity and discretion.
• Excellent organisation and reliable follow up.
• Confidence using databases and spreadsheets securely.
• Sound judgement and ability to escalate concerns appropriately.
• Ability to maintain firm boundaries while remaining compassionate.
• A good knowledge of the Jewish tradition.
• Cannot be a member of Maidenhead Synagogue.
Desirable
• Experience in community welfare, pastoral care, health or social care, or safeguarding contexts.
• Training or experience in volunteer coordination.
Training and compliance
If necessary, and in agreement with the rabbi, training in pastoral care, shadowing another CCC.
Completion of safeguarding and GDPR training (and any required checks) prior to independent work, as per synagogue policy.
