Specialist TA / Healthcare Support - Yate

A supportive primary school in Bristol is seeking a dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant/ Healthcare Support Assistant to provide essential daily medical care for apupil with specific medical needs. This is a highly important role thatrequires professionalism, sensitivity and a calm, reassuring approach.

Role Overview

  • Carry out twice‑daily catheterisation for a pupil in school (training provided)
  • Maintain dignity, privacy and emotional comfort for the child during procedures
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and healthcare professionals
  • Support the pupil with daily routines and ensure their full access to learning
  • Assist in the classroom when not carrying out medical duties
  • Follow school safeguarding, medical and hygiene protocols at all times


Candidate Profile

  • Experience within a healthcare, medical or SEN setting is highly desirable
  • Confident, calm and sensitive when carrying out intimate care
  • Strong communication and professionalism when working with staff, families and medical teams
  • Willingness to undertake catheterisation training (delivered by a specialist urology nurse)
  • TA qualifications or school‑based experience advantageous, but not essential
  • A compassionate, patient and supportive approach is essential


Specialist Training Provided
Full, bespoketraining will be given by a urologist specialistnurse, including:

  • Safe catheterisation procedures
  • Infection control and hygiene standards
  • Understanding medical plans and monitoring wellbeing
  • Safeguarding and reporting protocols

No priorcatheterisation experience is required - just the right attitude andwillingness to learn.
