Summary
Lead Chess Coach – Kent Primary Schools | from £20 per session | Term-Time Flexibility
Would flexible, term-time hours that fit around your existing commitments suit you? Are you confident leading children and making a real impact in schools?
LearnChess Academy is a long-established school enrichment provider delivering structured, engaging chess sessions in Kent primary schools. We are now recruiting a Lead Chess Coach as we expand into additional schools, and morning and afternoon sessions.
The role
This part-time, self-employed position offers consistent term-time work with scope to grow your weekly sessions as new schools join us.
You will deliver structured, enjoyable chess sessions to primary-aged children, helping them build focus, confidence and thinking skills. Full lesson frameworks and training are provided, so you can concentrate on leading the group effectively.
Pay starts from £20 per session, increasing with responsibility and experience:
• Assistant Coach – from £20 per session
• Coach – higher rate based on experience
• Lead Coach – up to £40 per session (gross, per session, not per hour)
As you progress, you can increase both your responsibility and your earning potential.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead structured after-school chess sessions in primary schools
• Create a calm, positive learning environment
• Manage behaviour confidently and fairly
• Set up and transport equipment between venues
• Represent LearnChess professionally within schools
About our company
LearnChess Academy delivers chess as an educational enrichment activity. We are not a competitive club and we do not train elite players.
We use chess to strengthen children’s concentration, resilience and logical thinking within a supportive school setting.
Our recruitment process is structured and supportive. Successful candidates complete induction and training, receive branded materials, and are paired for evaluation before delivering sessions independently. Ongoing reviews help you refine your delivery and grow within the team.
The Benefits
• Flexible, part-time term-time hours
• Opportunity to increase sessions as we expand
• Clear progression from Assistant Coach to Lead Coach
• Structured training and practical support
• Work that strengthens your leadership and group management skills
• The satisfaction of seeing children grow in confidence
The person
You will have:
• Experience working with children in groups
• Calm authority and strong behaviour management
• A positive and engaging presence
• Reliability and professionalism
• A driving licence and access to a car (essential)
• Right to work in the UK
• An Enhanced DBS is strongly preferred. If not held, this must be obtained before deployment.
• Chess knowledge (around 1000+ rating or practical equivalent) is helpful, but your ability to lead and engage children is more important.
