Summary


The post holder will be an experienced Qualified in Speciality (QIS) Neonatal Nurse, who will be responsible for the day to day running of the Neonatal Community Team (NCT); delegating to junior team NCT team members for a smooth running service.

Responsible for promoting and implementing practice conducive to the development of high quality patient care in neonates.

Provide support and guidance to all staff both in hospital and in the community. Supporting discharge home of patients admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Transitional Care requiring additional support. Complete home visits to review and assess ongoing care requirements for these patients.

As well as supporting the smooth running of NICU, working clinically as a QIS nurse, and nurse in charge deputising for the senior nurse team.

Working and communicating well with the multi-disciplinary team.

Ensure practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and work within limits of competence.

Ensure standards of nursing practice are maintained by personal example, supporting junior team members to be held to the same standards.

Carry out and advise/supervise junior staff in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluating of nursing care.

To ensure the patient administration systems e.g. PAS are up-dated to ensure real time data collection and confidentiality.

To ensure the effective use of information technology for the benefit of patient care in accordance with the Trust’s Code of Conduct.

To ensure the confidentiality of information (written, verbal, electronic) is maintained, whilst being aware of the Freedom for Information Act.

To co-ordinate and monitor the progress of patients within their plan of care and to promptly and effectively communicate relevant changes in patient status to the multi-disciplinary team.

Effectively communicate complex, sensitive or contentious information to the multi-disciplinary team gaining their co-operation.

Ensure Infection prevention and control guidelines and procedures are followed and high standards are maintained.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers, significant others, the multi-disciplinary team and support services.
