Crynodeb
We are seeking an Accounts Assistant to support finance controls and month-end processes across a small group of companies. The role will focus heavily on bank reconciliations, inter-company postings and reconciliations, and ensuring sales/purchase ledgers and control accounts agree to aged reports. You will work with multiple accounting/ERP systems and support a structured month-end close routine.
Key Responsibilities
Bank & cash
Perform daily/weekly/monthly bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts (e.g., TSB, HSBC, Co-op, Revolut, Bank of Scotland)
Investigate and resolve reconciling differences (e.g., transfers between accounts, timing differences, duplicate postings, missing entries)
Maintain a reconciliation log and supporting evidence pack for month-end and year-end
Sales ledger (AR) and Purchase ledger (AP)
Maintain customer and supplier ledgers, including invoice posting and allocation
Allocate receipts/payments against invoices and clear unallocated items
Ensure AR/AP control accounts reconcile to aged debtor/creditor reports and investigate discrepancies
Assist with credit control admin and supplier query resolution where needed
Intercompany and recharges
Support monthly intercompany recharge postings (including overhead and salary recharges)
Reconcile intercompany balances and maintain an intercompany schedule agreed “to the penny” across entities
Assist with preparing monthly intercompany statements/confirmations
Month-end close support
Assist with month-end checklist activities, including reconciliations and reporting extracts
Ensure periods are closed/locked where required and maintain good cut-off discipline
Prepare supporting schedules for external accountant review (bank packs, intercompany schedules, AR/AP integrity notes)
Systems & administration
Export/import data and reports from accounting/ERP platforms
Maintain tidy electronic filing of statements, reports, and support documents
Contribute to continuous improvement of finance processes and controls
Systems (experience helpful, not all essential)
QuickBooks / QuickFile (advantageous)
ERP exposure (training provided)
Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables, reconciliations)
Skills & Experience Required
1–3+ years’ experience in an accounts assistant / finance assistant role (or strong trainee)
Confident with bank reconciliations and investigating differences
Understanding of AR/AP ledgers, allocations, and control accounts
Good Excel skills and attention to detail
Able to work to deadlines and keep clear audit trails
Professional communication skills for internal/external queries
Desirable
Experience with multi-entity environments and intercompany reconciliations
Experience working with multiple bank accounts and high volume transactions
AAT, IAB, (or studying) preferred.
