Summary

Building Support Assistant
Location: Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, Dumfries, DG2 8RX
Salary: £ 28,291.00– 30,500.00 plus shift enhancements Schedule: Full time 37.5 hours per week, working a mixture of earlies, days and lates between the hours of 6am & 10pm, weekend working will be 1 in 4.

As a Building Fabric Operative in our Health team, you’ll help keep essential hospital environments safe, compliant, and functioning smoothly so clinical teams can focus on care. Your work will directly support safe patient spaces and contribute to services local communities depend on.
You’ll play a hands-on role maintaining engineering plant, equipment, and the wider estate. From planned maintenance to reactive repairs, you’ll help ensure our facilities meet strict regulatory standards and remain fit for the future. Every task you complete helps create safer spaces and better experiences for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
What you’ll do as a Building Fabric Operative You’ll be entrusted to:

Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair tasks across a wide range of building systems, equipment, and plant, following operational manuals and training.

Undertake ductwork cleaning, filter changes, lamp and tube replacements, and cleaning of plant areas, equipment, and plant rooms.

Work safely in highrisk or challenging environments, always following the correct safety measures and procedures.

Record and document maintenance activities through the Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) system, ensuring accurate logs, service sheets, and work orders.

Assist technicians and craft colleagues with technical tasks, fault-finding, and diagnostic work.

Support emergency repairs, overtime requirements, contractor escorting, and recall working as needed.

Recognised industry training (for example, NVQs) plus strong health and safety awareness.

Experience working in a building services or maintenance environment.

Attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities.

IT literacy and confidence working with digital systems.

A flexible, proactive approach and the ability to work well within a team.
