Summary

We are seeking an Observability Architect to lead the design and delivery of Trust wide monitoring and observability capabilities across on‑premise, cloud and hybrid environments. This role is key to ensuring the safety, performance and reliability of Trust digital systems that support patient care.
• Lead the design and governance of Trust wide observability architecture across on‑premise, cloud and hybrid environments.
• Develop and maintain architectural standards for telemetry collection, correlation, retention and visualisation.
• Support clinical safety by ensuring observability contributes to safer, more reliable patient‑critical systems.
• Work collaboratively with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity, clinical safety and service management teams.
• Oversee the onboarding of new technical systems and equipment into observability and alerting platforms.
• Administer, maintain and enhance the Trust’s monitoring and availability tools, ensuring high service reliability.
• Provide expert input for major incidents, post‑incident reviews and analytical reporting.
• Contribute to digital strategy, governance and infrastructure assurance processes.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, covering one of the largest geographical areas of any NHS trust in the country. Leading in innovation and quality – opening a state of the art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. Do you want to work in one of the best performing NHS organisations in England? Work in an organisation that supports its staff and focuses on staff experience as much as it does the experience of its patients? You can live and breathe in an area that has the cleanest air, cost effective living, great nightlife, some of the best schools with a wealth of history available on your doorstep. Sound too good to be true? Well it isn’t, this is what you get when you work for Northumbria Healthcare, this is the Northumbria Way! Please read ‘applicant guidance notes’ before submitting your application.

You will develop and govern the Trust's observability strategy, covering metrics, logs, tracing, alerting and dashboards. Working with infrastructure, application, cybersecurity and clinical safety teams, you will help embed proactive monitoring and support incident response, service resilience and continual improvement.
This is a unique opportunity to shape a core digital capability within a progressive Trust.
