The Shared Regulatory Service (SRS) is a partnership between Bridgend Council, Cardiff Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council to deliver the Environmental Health, Trading Standards and Licensing functions.

An excellent opportunity has arisen within our Specialist Services (Environment Team). The team is responsible for a range of specialist environmental health functions including those related to Contaminated Land, Private Water Supplies, and Local Air Quality Management. For this role, we are seeking candidates with substantial experience and demonstrable skills in assessing land contamination, reviewing site investigation reports, and ensuring regulatory compliance within planning and environmental frameworks.

The successful candidate will therefore ideally have relevant professional experience and a strong background in environmental protection matters.

About the role
Pay Details: Grade 9, SCP 31 - 35 £ £41,771 - £46,142 p.a.
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours flexible working (part time/job share applications will be considered)
Main Place of Work: Bridgend/Cardiff/Vale of Glamorgan, business premises, office locations and home working.
Description: To take a lead role for the contaminated land function across the SRS region.

Duties will include:

Carry out contaminated land assessments and risk evaluations under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Review technical and environmental reports for regulatory accuracy.
Provide expert advice to internal teams, planners, and developers.
Maintain accurate records and support ongoing environmental projects.
Business Development and provision of technical services across internal departments, involving the undertaking/ reviewing of land contamination assessments for different departments to examine the potential impacts of land contamination and Public Health risks in accordance with future development proposals.
About you
You will need :

A degree or equivalent in a relevant science relating to Specialist Service Environment functions.
Expert knowledge of contaminated land regulations & risk assessment.
Ability to interpret technical information and provide clear guidance.
Good IT skills including use of Microsoft software
Ability to drive / travel throughout, Bridgend / Cardiff / Vale or between locations if appropriate.
Able to work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends, both planned and in an emergency
