Overview:
To support in the engineering delivery of the FEED phase of the East Coast Hydrogen Project in line with Ofgem requirements and ensure alignment with company standards, safety regulations, and project governance. Support with the management of internal and external design and engineering packages and provide technical input to the project team. The role would involve ensuring that design consultants have the required information from NGN to complete their work and that technical questions raised are answered.
Scope of work:
East Coast Hydrogen (ECH) is an energy transition initiative to repurpose and expand the existing >2barg gas network for hydrogen delivery across the North-East by converting existing assets and introducing new infrastructure. The project will create a reliable hydrogen network to support decarbonisation and is crucial to the UK’s net-zero ambitions in helping decarbonise the region's energy supply.
The daily duties will be as follows:
• Sourcing of information required by design consultants and answering technical queries raised by the design
consultants
• Management of sections of the design and engineering consultants' work
• Review and checking of design deliverables produced by design consultants
• Carry out design works for the development of a hydrogen network, e.g. calculation for pipeline sizing, pressure
drop across installations and pipelines
• Technical reporting including input to conceptual, feasibility and frontend engineering studies, basis of design
documents
• Ensure engineering works are in compliance with standards and company specifications
• Leading design meeting internally and with design consultants
• Participate in risk workshops
• Review of datasheets and equipment specifications
The candidate will have the following:
• Graduate Mechanical Engineer or similar
• Chartered or incorporated Engineer (desirable)
• Minimum 5 years of experience in the design of gas transmission and distribution networks
• Knowledge & understanding of the operation of the gas distribution network
• Experience in carrying out pipeline and above-ground installation design on gas networks at all pressure tiers
• Experience of carrying out design appraisals, G35 Design appraisal qualification in one or more disciplines would be desirable
• Experience with databases and mapping/design software e.g. GIS or CAD.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications
• Experience or a good understanding of network modelling and use of analytical tools, ideally within the gas /utilities sector (Synergi Gas, ArcMap, GIS)
• Solid decision-making skills with the ability to understand and interpret complex data.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders in the development of project designs
• Logical approach and able to demonstrate the ability to resolve analytical problems
• Strong team player with ability to work on own initiative
• Some exposure to project management skills and planning
