Summary
We are looking for an experienced nurse for a permanent job on Ward 13D. The ward provides acute inpatient services to the trust.
13D ward specialises in looking after patients with Diabetes and Haematology including Sickle Cell patients and General Medicine. An experience in this area of nursing is desirable but not essential.
The successful candidate will be involved in service delivery, audits, the support and development of the nursing team to provide safe, high quality patient focused care. The band 6 has day to day responsibilities to ensure patients safety on the ward along with discharge planning and working with all members of the MDT. They will also be asked to be a team leader for a small group of staff including regular one to ones, Appraisals, Managing Sickness and development planning and a key leader within the ward. Leadership and managerial skills are desirable for this post but not essential.

Responsible for supporting the Ward Manager in the delivery of consistently high standards of care to meet the service needs of the patients and the Trust objectives. The post holder will be a role model of the Barts Health values and key behaviours to all members of the team and the wider MDT. As a senior member of the Ward team, the band 6 will be a competent confident practitioner who can care for, and manage the deteriorating and acutely ill patient, escalating concerns to the appropriate medical and outreach teams. The post holder must have competent management and facilitation skills in order to coordinate and supervise the activity of ward staff, promote multi-disciplinary working and foster a supportive, learning environment. In the absence of the Ward Manager the post holder will assume responsibility for the effective operation of the ward, including audit and budgetary roles, that the ward environment is maintained in a clean safe way, and all staff follow the Trusts infection control policy, dress code and all other Trust policies and protocols. As a Registered Nurse the post holder is expected to consistently act in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
