Operating both in the UK and across the world, they are a leading contractor delivering projects across multiple sectors including; real estate, defence, education, highways, rail and water.
Your new role
Working on the largest highways project in the region involving a new 10 mile dual carriageway, we are looking for a Materials Engineer to join the project team.
In this role, you'll ensure material compliance, provide expert technical advice, and help drive sustainable, cost‑effective solutions across the project.
You'll work closely with engineering, laboratory, and supply-chain teams to ensure all materials meet required performance, safety, and environmental standards-while exploring opportunities for innovation and improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities for improving or optimising material specifications.
- Make informed engineering decisions to ensure full compliance with industry standards.
- Manage and coordinate construction materials testing in line with project Appendix 1/5 requirements.
- Advise engineering teams on material suitability and restrictions.
- Ensure timely delivery of testing to align with the programme of works.
- Drive sustainability by identifying ways to reduce carbon and promote secondary materials.
- Source materials and verify ongoing compliance for all bulk purchases.
- Develop cost‑effective, compliant concrete mix designs in collaboration with supply chain partners.
- Conduct and analyse laboratory and plant trials and monitor testing data.
- Review inspection/test plans and specification appendices.
- Support procurement teams with up‑to‑date standards and technical requirements.
- Deliver training to project teams on construction materials, earthworks, and concrete use.
- Ensure all materials test results are accurate, compliant, and suitable for handover documentation.
- Support and streamline the materials approval (MAR) process.
What you'll need to succeed
- Degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering-or significant experience in a similar role.
- Strong understanding of key industry specifications (e.g., Specification for Highway Works, relevant British/European standards).
- Experience across major concrete structures, site investigations, quarrying, materials processing, lab testing, and quotation analysis.
- Strong digital skills for reporting and data presentation.
- Excellent organisational and prioritisation abilities.
