Community Care Assistant - Short Term Homecare (Driver Essential)
Swindon & Surrounding Areas

First City Care Group is recruiting experienced and confident Care Assistants to join our Short-Term Homecare (Front Door) Team.

This specialist, recovery-focused service supports people in their own homes following illness, hospital discharge or changes in health. Unlike long-term care, this is a time-limited service designed to help individuals regain independence, rebuild confidence and achieve personal goals.

If you are passionate about empowering people rather than doing everything for them, this role offers meaningful, outcome-driven work in the community.

About the Service

Our Short-Term Homecare Team provides temporary support to help people:

  • Remain safely at home during periods of increased difficulty
  • Recover after a fall, illness or operation
  • Regain confidence following hospital discharge
  • Live well with progressive illness, including end-of-life support

You will actively support individuals to rebuild daily living skills, increasing independence as they progress.

Working Hours

We are particularly keen to hear from drivers available for late shifts:

  • Early: 7:00am - 2:30pm
  • Late: 3:30pm - 11:00pm
  • Long Day: 7:00am - 2:30pm and 3:30pm - 11:00pm

Late shift availability (3:00pm - 11:00pm) is a priority, although early shifts are also required.

This is a community-based role, so flexibility and willingness to travel across Swindon and surrounding areas is essential.

The Role (Community Based - Driving Essential)

You will provide short-term, recovery-focused support, adjusting care as individuals progress.

Your role will include:

  • Supporting people to relearn and rebuild daily living skills
  • Encouraging independence rather than completing tasks for them
  • Working flexibly within 2-hour visit windows
  • Adapting support daily based on recovery and changing needs
  • Collaborating with therapists, healthcare professionals and internal teams

This is a dynamic role where your professional judgement, confidence and experience will be highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Personal care, mobility support, meal preparation and medication assistance
  • Encouraging and enabling independence at every opportunity
  • Monitoring recovery and responding appropriately to changes
  • Completing accurate digital care notes
  • Maintaining clear communication with colleagues and professionals
  • Delivering respectful, compassionate and person-centred care

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience in homecare, reablement or support work
  • Confidence working independently in the community
  • NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (preferred but not essential)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential)
  • Willingness to travel across Swindon and surrounding areas

What We Offer

  • £14.50 - £14.80 per hour plus 35p per mile mileage
  • Meaningful, varied work with measurable outcomes
  • 28 days paid holiday (pro rata)
  • Free uniform
  • Pool cars available (subject to availability)
  • Employee discounts and refer-a-friend bonus scheme
  • Comprehensive induction and shadowing
  • Employee Assistance Programme (Health Assured)

Ready to Make a Real Difference?

If you are a driver who enjoys community-based work and wants to support people to recover and regain independence, we would love to hear from you-especially if you are available for late shifts between 3:00pm and 11:00pm.

Apply today and be part of a service that genuinely changes lives.
