National Highways have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technology Engineer to join our team in the Midlands. As Senior Engineer, you will drive and coordinate the activities and resources involved in the identification of roadside technology asset needs and development of initial solutions for the asset class in scope, while assuring adherence to defined asset policies and standards.
This position will be based in either of our Birmingham or Nottingham offices with a balance of remote and office-based work.
Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.
- Providing technical support to internal and external stakeholders with specialist knowledge on highway communications infrastructure, roadside surveillance cameras, traffic detection & message sign equipment and other.
- Developing initial solutions for asset site improvements and/or equipment renewals, including the compiling of relevant documents, evidence and options for value management, taking into account roadside technology standards, equipment specifications, buildability and costs.
- Developing the region's asset needs forward programme and initial scheme development (e.g. scheme scope and requirements).
- Identifying, preparing briefs and assisting with the compiling of site survey documentation to support the improvement and/or renewal of assets.
- Reviews of third-party designs for compliance to design and maintenance requirements.
- Reviewing Scheme Asset Reports (SARs) and handover into maintenance packages (as-built drawings, testing documentation, equipment fault reports).
- Amend, improve, create and standardise internal technical processes.
About you.
- Degree / HNC / HND in an Engineering discipline with experience in a transport or technology setting
- Strong understanding of technology assets used on the Strategic Road Network (SRN) - message signs & signals, traffic detectors, traffic surveillance cameras, environmental sensors
- Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) roadside technology design & maintenance standards as well as CDM 2015 roles and responsibilities.
- Asset management decision making process awareness (value optimisation, capital investment, lifecycle costs, service & availability optimisation)
- Project Management and stakeholder engagement experience.
