Summary
TKMS ATLAS UK develops, supplies, and supports advanced maritime technology for customers worldwide. Based in Winfrith, Dorset, we work closely with the UK Royal Navy and international partners to deliver products that protect lives at sea.
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and development of mechanical systems for maritime platforms. You will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team contributing to the delivery of reliable solutions across sonar, autonomous, and underwater technologies.
This role is suited to an engineer with mechanical design experience who is looking to develop within a complex, safety-critical environment and gain exposure to the full engineering lifecycle.
You will work with electrical, software, and systems engineers to take designs from concept through detailed design, verification, and testing, ensuring functional, performance, and compliance requirements are met.
Key responsibilities
Undertake mechanical design tasks for components and assemblies using established engineering processes
Produce 3D CAD models, technical drawings, and supporting documentation to the required standards
Carry out basic calculations and analysis to support design justification and verification
Select appropriate materials and components for marine and underwater environments
Support integration, testing, and trials to demonstrate design performance
Present design work internally and incorporate feedback where required
Work within agreed cost and schedule constraints
Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical queries
Knowledge and skills
HNC, HND, Degree, or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering
Experience completing mechanical design tasks and producing engineering drawings
Proficiency in 3D CAD, Solid Edge preferred
Understanding of mechanisms, assemblies, structures, materials, and basic stress analysis
Awareness of design for manufacture and test
Good attention to detail and ability to work with limited supervision
Marine or underwater experience beneficial but not essential
Training and development will be provided to build domain knowledge in marine and defence applications.
