Summary
About the role
We are looking for a skilled Welder / Fabricator to join our Asset Technology & Solutions (ATS) business at our Shotts Depot. In this hands‑on role, you will provide both workshop and mobile support across our Shotts operation and wider Scottish region.
You will play a key part in ensuring our mechanical and non‑mechanical plant, equipment and vehicles are maintained, repaired and ready to support operational demands. Safety, quality and collaboration are core to how we operate, and you’ll be an important contributor to delivering excellent service for our internal and external customers.
What you'll be doing
In this role, you will:
- Carry out welding and fabrication tasks on a wide range of plant, equipment and vehicles.
- Work safely at all times, following Work Package Plans, Risk Assessments and Balfour Beatty’s 4 Golden Rules.
- Support workshop and project teams to ensure maintenance and repair work is planned and completed with minimal operational disruption.
- Inspect welding and fabrication equipment, ensuring all safety and operational standards are consistently met.
- Identify required replacement components and order parts, steel plate and associated materials when needed.
- Liaise with equipment operators to quickly address issues and ensure assets are functioning correctly.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work.
- Support other mechanical tasks as required to meet operational needs.
- Uphold F1 5S standards by maintaining clean and organised work areas.
- Undertake additional tasks and training to meet business requirements, including weekday and weekend overtime when required.

- Good understanding of business systems and workshop processes.
Experience & Qualifications:
- Formal qualification in Welding and Fabrication.
- CSCS card.
- NPORS MEWP Operation.
- IPAF 3a & 3b+.
- IPAF Safety Harness & Lanyard.
- NPORS Abrasive Wheels.
- Oxy‑Propane Burning qualification.
- Experience working with non‑mechanical and large plant/equipment.
- Basic IT skills.
