Summary

Job Title: Community Digital Skills Facilitator
Location: The Gate Community Hub, Alloa, (with outreach to local venues)
Contract: Fixed-Term (4 Months)
Hours: 20 hours per week
Rate: £19–£23 per hour (dependent on experience)
Responsible to: Chief Officer, Jilly Guild

Job Purpose
To design and deliver accessible, beginner-level digital skills training for members of the local community. Learners will include elderly residents, unemployed adults, and individuals with low digital confidence.
The role involves curriculum development, group and one-to-one delivery, outreach work, and management of devices.

Key Responsibilities
Programme Development
• Design and develop a structured, beginner-friendly digital skills curriculum
• Adapt content to meet varying abilities and learning speeds
• Create simple, accessible learning materials and handouts
• Review and refine session content based on feedback
Delivery
• Deliver engaging digital skills sessions in group and one-to-one formats
• Support learners with:
o Basic computer use (Windows and Mac OS)
o Smartphones and tablets (including iPads)
o Email setup and management
o Internet navigation and online forms
o Video calling platforms
o Online safety, privacy, and scam awareness
• Provide tailored support for individuals with low confidence
Outreach
• Deliver sessions at external community venues including sheltered housing complexes and community groups
• Prepare equipment and materials for off-site sessions
• Ensure accessibility and inclusivity in all delivery settings
Equipment & Administration
• Manage and maintain community devices (laptops, tablets, etc.)
• Ensure devices are updated, secure, and safely stored
• Track attendance and gather participant feedback
• Maintain basic records for monitoring and reporting purposes

Person Specification
Essential
• Strong foundational digital skills
• Experience teaching or supporting adult learners
• Ability to explain technology clearly and without jargon
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience and empathy when working with beginners
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
• Willingness to travel locally (mileage reimbursed)
Desirable
• Experience in community or adult education
• Experience working with elderly learners
• Knowledge of online safety best practices
• IT troubleshooting experience
