Summary

SHEQ ApprenticeThe purpose of this role is to support a team responsible for the effective management and implementation of Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality Assurance (SHEQ) processes within a fast-paced organisation.

Alongside providing administrative support, the successful candidate will receive structured training to enable them to progressively assist the department in ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, statutory requirements, approved codes of practice, and industry standards. Training will be provided across a range of SHEQ disciplines, as required.

The role will also provide support with estate management activities at head office, including liaison with external contractors and oversight of workplace welfare facilities.



As a SHEQ Apprentice, you will support the department with day-to-day administrative tasks while working towards developing a strong understanding of Environmental, Health & Safety and Quality (SHEQ) within a commercially driven private-sector environment.

Through a combination of structured training and hands-on experience, you will:

-Develop an understanding of how a commercial organisation operates, with particular focus on compliance and risk management.

-Learn how to support the management of health & safety, quality, and environmental matters, including the operational activities that enable the business to meet its legal and contractual obligations.

-Build practical knowledge across a range of SHEQ disciplines, enabling you to progressively contribute to compliance-related activities within the business.

Key Responsibilities

-Maintain the SHEQ Management System in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

-Support the upkeep of SHEQ evidence and records to facilitate effective internal and external audits.

-Assist in the management of the controlled document system, including document review, reissue, and maintenance of the document register.

-Provide relevant SHEQ information and documentation to the Marketing and Bids teams as required.

-Contribute to the development of improved working practices and actively promote a culture of continual improvement.

-Demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop across all aspects of SHEQ systems through training and practical experience.

-Assist with Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental inspections across group businesses, as required.

-Ensure the accurate, timely, and legible completion of paperwork and reports to support audit and compliance activities.

-Support the preparation and submission of data to external accreditation and regulatory bodies, including NSI, BAFE, ISO, and CHAS.

-Provide guidance and support regarding relevant standards and compliance requirements operated within the business.

-Assist with group-wide accident and incident reporting, ensuring appropriate evidence and records are maintained.

-Maintain statistics, KPI data, and compliance metrics, contributing to board reports and management information where required.

-Manage personal workload effectively, planning and prioritising tasks to meet business and compliance deadlines.

-Complete all training and development activities identified to support the role and ongoing professional growth.

-Work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider business to provide advice on SHEQ and technical compliance matters, escalating issues where appropriate.

-Support compliance-related enquiries associated with company properties as required.

-Liaise with external contractors and service providers in relation to office maintenance, facilities management, and estates-related matters, including post, visitors, and welfare facilities.

-Provide cover for team responsibilities during periods of absence or holidays to ensure continuity of compliance support.

-Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the role.
