Lead the Commercial Strategy Behind Major National Infrastructure
This is a rare opportunity to take a senior leadership role overseeing the commercial delivery of multi‑billion‑pound onshore infrastructure projects across transmission, including overhead lines, substations, and underground cabling.
You'll join at a pivotal moment-steering procurement strategy, safeguarding commercial performance, and ensuring that major capital projects deliver on time, on budget, and against demanding industry expectations.
What You'll Be Doing
As a key commercial leader, you will:
- Provide hands‑on senior leadership within the procurement & commercial function.
- Take full commercial ownership for one or more mega‑scale infrastructure projects (£1bn+).
- Oversee cost management, forecasting accuracy, governance, and total cost‑of‑ownership strategies.
- Lead end‑to‑end procurement activities, ensuring compliance and excellence in commercial execution.
- Drive strategic supplier relationship management to secure optimal outcomes.
- Influence dispute resolution, guide complex negotiations, and champion value‑driven delivery.
- Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary project team, embedding consistent commercial standards and innovation.
What You'll Bring
We are looking for an experienced commercial heavyweight. Ideally, you'll have:
- 20+ years' experience as a commercial practitioner in major UK onshore infrastructure.
- A proven track record delivering mega capital projects (£1bn+) through both pre‑ and post‑contract phases.
- Deep NEC contract experience with the confidence to shape, negotiate, and manage complex contractual arrangements.
- 10+ years operating as a commercial lead or head of function with responsibility for procurement, negotiation, supplier oversight, and risk management.
- A proactive, solution‑focused approach with the resilience to navigate challenging timelines and ambitious project demands.
- Professional qualifications such as FRICS / MRICS or a Quantity Surveying degree, or equivalent professional body entry.
- Strong financial acumen-able to translate operational needs and project realities into commercially sound decisions.
- Experience managing and resolving claims while upholding ethical and strategic business objectives.
Why This Role Matters
This appointment places you at the heart of nationally significant infrastructure delivery. You will directly influence commercial strategy, supplier ecosystems, risk management, and the successful execution of some of the UK's most complex engineering programmes.
Ready to Take the Lead?
If you're a senior commercial specialist ready to shape the success of major national infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
