As the Engineering Manager in our Estates Maintenance Team at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, you’ll make a direct impact by ensuring safe, reliable and efficient mechanical services that directly support patient care and clinical operational delivery, helping create a better everyday experience for patients, colleagues and the wider community.
As the Mechanical Engineering Manager, working with and alongside the Operations Manager, Electrical Engineering Manager and Building Engineering Manager you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of the mechanical maintenance services throughout the site, across a wide range of plant and equipment to include but not limited to Ventilation Systems, Water Management (HWS & CWS Services), Medical Gas Systems, Decontamination, Pressure Systems, Boilers, MTHW System, Steam Raising Plant, Hydrotherapy Pool etc.
Leading a team of 37 staff to include Technical Engineering Officers, Supervisors, Technicians, Craftsperson’s and Maintenance Assistants, overseeing the management of the day-to-day maintenance, small works and various lifecycle projects in line with all operating procedures and contractual Key Performance Indicators.
You’ll play a key role in shaping a safe, well‑maintained environment that supports vital clinical services. Through your leadership, technical expertise and focus on service quality, you’ll help ensure the hospital estate continues to perform at its best — today and for the future.
For this key leadership role, we are looking for a highly motivated, flexible, customer focussed, forward thinking and pro-active individual with strong people management skills alongside proven experience and knowledge of mechanical infrastructure, systems, plant and equipment to join our team where you will:
What you’ll do as an Engineering Manager
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Oversee the safe and efficient maintenance of mechanical systems, infrastructure, plant and equipment across the hospital estate in line with our contractual obligations.
- Manage and maintain compliance to the appropriate legislation, standards and guidance.
- Drive team/department performance and development, as well as individual development and performance.

- Act as a key point of contact for all stakeholders (internal and external), building strong working relationships and supporting effective communication.
- Manage and promote a zero tolerance Health & Safety culture.

- Create and carry out document reviews of policies, procedures, method statements, risk assessments, scopes of work etc. as well as other estates related documentation.

· Carry out Authorised Person duties in at least one discipline i.e. Water, Ventilation etc

Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have…
- A recognised Engineering or Mechanical Apprenticeship, and relevant qualifications such as City and Guilds or BTEC.
- Experience working within a similar environment, ideally in building or mechanical services.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
- Confidence interpreting standards, guidance and compliance requirements within mechanical engineering.
- A proactive, customer‑focused approach with excellent communication skills.

Vetting and checks A Standard DBS check will be carried out for this position. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings as permitted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
An Occupational Health Questionnaire will also be completed so we can ensure you have the necessary support to perform your duties.
