Summary
Our client, a leading educational institution in Oldham, Greater Manchester, is seeking a dedicated and experienced ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) Specialist Learning Support Assistant to join their dynamic team. As an ASD Specialist Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with our client's teaching staff, providing individualised support and interventions to students with autism. Your primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting students with autism in their day-to-day learning activities, ensuring they are able to actively participate and engage in the curriculum.
- Developing and implementing personalised support strategies, in collaboration with the teaching team, to address the unique needs and learning styles of students with autism.
- Facilitating social and communication skills development, as well as fostering independence and self-advocacy among the students.
- Providing emotional support and guidance to students with autism, helping them navigate the challenges they may face in the academic and social environment.
- Collaborating with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive and supportive approach to the student's educational and personal development.
- Maintaining detailed records and documentation regarding the progress and needs of the students you support.
- Participating in regular training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in supporting students with autism.
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Learning Support Assistant, with a focus on supporting students with autism.
- A relevant educational or training qualification, such as a degree in Special Educational Needs, Psychology, or a related field.
- A deep understanding of the unique needs and challenges faced by individuals with autism, and the ability to adapt your approach accordingly.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and families.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, enabling you to identify and implement effective strategies to support student learning and wellbeing.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with and advocating for individuals with autism.
- Familiarity with assistive technologies and resources that can enhance the learning experience for students with autism.
