Summary

The Role and the Department

Durham University recognises that providing equality of opportunity, valuing diversity and promoting a culture of inclusion are vital to our success. With EDI running throughout the University Strategy and our values, we help to create a working, learning and social environment in which individuals can utilise their skills and talents to the full.

Under the Access to Work scheme, the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Team seeks to appoint a Personal Support Worker to provide specialist assistance to a member of staff with sight loss. This role is designed to enable the colleague to perform their duties effectively by offering tailored administrative support. Responsibilities will include attending meetings and taking detailed notes, reading and summarising lengthy documents, assisting with data entry, and converting documents into accessible formats, among other tasks. The role requires a high level of mobility to travel between university sites and the ability to provide appropriate assistance to an individual who is also a guide dog user.

This is a fixed-term position for two years in the first instance, working 12 hours per week. The role offers the flexibility to work in a hybrid arrangement, combining remote and on-site work. Specific working patterns will be agreed in consultation with the colleague this role supports to ensure their needs are met.
