About the Direct Payment Holder
The client is a 22-year-old young adult who lives alone with a small dog. She has autism (ASD), OCD, PTSD, an eating disorder, and selective mutism. These conditions affect her motivation, energy levels, and ability to manage everyday tasks, particularly paperwork, nutrition, maintaining her home environment, routines, and social interaction.
Hours and rate of pay
Hours: 6 hours per week
Days: Mondays and Thursdays
Hours per day: 3 hours
• Flexibility: Support times should be flexible and responsive to energy levels and anxiety on the day
Location AL1 (Hertfordshire)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check
Right to Work and references will be needed.
Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:
• Safeguarding Children
• Introduction to first aid / Paediatric first aid
• Health and Safety / Moving and handling
What you would be doing…
Paperwork and administration
• Supporting with managing paperwork, letters, and forms
• Helping to understand and respond to correspondence
• Supporting contact with utility providers and other services, either alongside the client or on her behalf
Appointments and accessing the community
• Accompanying the client to appointments and shopping
• Supporting communication during appointments, including advocating when she is unable to speak
• Helping her prepare for appointments in advance to reduce anxiety
Daily living support
• Gentle prompting and support with daily routines when she feels overwhelmed or low
• Helping to organise tasks and break them down into manageable steps
Emotional support
• Providing calm, patient, and non-judgemental support
• Allowing time and space when the client is overwhelmed, without pressure to communicate verbally
Required skills and experience • Experience or a good understanding of supporting people with autism, anxiety, depression, and selective mutism
• Experience supporting individuals who find verbal communication difficult
• Calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build trust over time
• Comfortable using alternative methods of communication (e.g. written communication, prompts, or supported advocacy)
• Able to work flexibly and adapt to fluctuating mental health and energy levels
• Female Carer required
• Preferably a driver with access to their own car
