About us
The RAF Families Federation exists to improve the quality of life for the RAF family around the world – at work or at home. We provide an independent voice for Serving personnel and their families and offer a confidential service that relies upon the integrity, and professionalism of its staff to deliver a Federation that is both credible and respected by all parties.
About the role
A newly created role, the Engagement Specialist plays a pivotal, outward-facing role in energising the RAFFF’s presence across Defence and the RAF community. This position requires a curious, proactive, and highly self motivated individual who thrives on building relationships, spotting opportunities, and shaping new ways for the Federation to hear and amplify the voices of all RAF Serving Personnel and their families A core part of this role is ensuring that lived experience is gathered ethically, understood deeply, and used meaningfully to inform RAFFF’s influencing work, service improvement, and strategic priorities. The postholder will help ensure that RAF Serving Personnel and their families can see how their voices contribute to real change. Primary responsibilities include;
Proactively design, drive, and deliver engagement plans that broaden awareness of RAFFF services across the Defence and the wider RAF community. This includes initiating partnerships with RAF units and key community stakeholders.
Actively seek out new engagement opportunities - events, networks, communities, digital spaces - that help surface the real experiences of RAF personnel and families.
Evaluate and optimise engagement activities, recommending fresh approaches, new initiatives, and innovative methods for reaching audiences.
Analyse insight from engagement activity to identify themes, trends, and systemic issues, and translate these into clear recommendations that inform RAFFF’s communications, influencing, and service improvement work.
Support feedback loops so individuals and communities understand how their input has been heard and what impact it has had.
About you
While an understanding of RAF life is beneficial, the right attitude, energy, and commitment to learning are paramount. The successful candidate will bring a can-do mindset, a positive approach to problem solving, and the confidence to work autonomously while contributing as part of a collaborative team. Previous experience of providing support or signposting to services is essential for success in this role along with the ability to identify needs and improve services and processes. You will need to demonstrate strong listening and interpersonal skills with a high level of efficiency and accuracy in preparing reports and briefing materials.
