Summary

The Office of the Pay Review Bodies (OPRB) is an independent body providing the secretariat for the eight public sector Pay Review Bodies, which make recommendations on pay for 2.5 million workers, with a pay bill of well over £100 billion. Each Pay Review Body (PRB) is an NDPB (Non-Departmental Public Body) and Chairs and Members hold senior, non-Executive type roles. OPRB itself is a small, friendly and collegiate organisation and is formally part of the Department of Business and Trade.

The Business Support Manager role sits within the Central Support Unit (CSU) and will play a crucial part in ensuring the smooth running of functions and daily business within OPRB. This is a stretching role which provides an exciting opportunity for a candidate to work in the highly topical area of public sector pay helping to make a difference. Whilst the post holder will provide essential administrative and IT support to senior leaders and teams, ensuring efficient systems and quality customer service, they will also have the opportunity to lead on a number of areas including finance.

It is likely that the role will develop further in the future to supporting the activities of the Pay Review Bodies more closely including attending visits. The post holder will therefore need to be flexible in accommodating the changing needs of the business.

In order to provide direct support to teams and the Pay Review Bodies, regular travel to London is an essential part of the role.

This role will enable the post holder to gain insight into a range of corporate issues across the directorate and oversee essential administrative functions including:

  • Management of the CSU mailbox ensuring timely responses to enquires.
  • Lead or act as a central coordinating point of contact for a range of business administration queries.
  • Lead on financial transactions for OPRB including procurement of goods and services, raising purchase orders on behalf of teams, processing invoices, receipting payments when good have been received and recharging other government departments for members fees
  • Oversee OPRB communications including creating, updating and publishing content on OPRB and PRB websites.
  • Ensure key resources such as SharePoint sites, organograms, templates, and guidance documents are up-to-date, accessible, and aligned with directorate standards.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to the directorate.
  • Organise and co-ordinate meetings to ensure these run smoothly and achieve their purpose.
  • Lead on and coordinate FOI responses on behalf of OPRB.
  • Provide cover as directed by line manager for other members of the team and assist with their workloads as necessary.
