Summary


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Histopathology team in a key liaison role supporting the Clinical Pathology Genomics Centre (CPGC). The post holder will work closely with the CPGC Liaison Section Lead, clinical multidisciplinary teams, and internal and external stakeholders to ensure the timely referral and processing of histopathology samples for Clinical Genomics testing.

In addition, the post holder will undertake technical tasks, including microtomy, in line with departmental standard operating procedures and under the direction of senior staff.

This role is ideal for a highly organised individual with strong communication skills and an interest in supporting genomic diagnostics within a busy Histopathology service.

The post holder will support the CPGC Liaison Section Lead and liaise with both departmental and external staff to ensure diagnostic samples are appropriately referred to Clinical Genomics, enabling timely provision of diagnostic testing.

The post holder will work closely with clinical multidisciplinary teams to ensure service provision requirements are met.

The post holder will assist in managing the administration and maintenance of effective systems within the department to enable the efficient running of the administration and communication systems between the clinical teams and histopathology, when ordering clinical genomics requests.

The post holder will be responsible for all administrative and clerical duties associated with the Clinical Genomics referral pathway for Histopathology samples. These duties include, but are not limited to, receipt of requests (electronic, verbal, or paper-based), accurate data entry of requests and clinical information onto departmental databases (EPIC), collation of all relevant documentation required for genomic testing, tracking samples throughout the review process, arranging timely transport of samples to Clinical Genomics, and coordinating the request and return of material to and from external institutions.

To provide a professional and courteous service to all service users, ensuring a high quality diagnostic service. To respond to complex requests from service users.

To be the single point of contact for users requesting clinical genomics from histopathology samples. To be aware of complex diagnostic tests in clinical genomics, advise users on availability of diagnostic tests and provide feedback to consultant pathologists and clinical teams.

Understanding of diagnostic tests available on NHS national genomics testing directory and can provide guidance to users to availability of tests within RMH clinical genomics department

The post holder will ensure that all required information and materials are available to facilitate the timely transfer of samples, enabling Clinical Genomics to proceed with diagnostic testing without delay.

They will also contribute to the development and implementation of departmental sample receipt pathways, including the booking-in of routine and historical cases, sample return procedures, and the establishment and ongoing maintenance of any new systems or processes introduced.

The post holder will be proficient in microtomy, or will receive appropriate training if required, and will undertake technical tasks as directed by the CPGC Liaison Section Lead, Histopathology Laboratory Manager, and senior staff, in line with departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).
