Summary
Fisheries Technician and Instructor
Salary: Up to £25,335 per annum (depending on experience and qualifications) (potential to add a market supplement for the right candidate)
Working Pattern: Full-time (37 hours per week, 52 weeks)
Location: Sparsholt Campus, Hampshire

We are looking for someone with a passion in fisheries and aquaculture to join University Centre Sparsholt’s fishery and aquatics provision!
About the role The role will focus on supporting two specialist facilities: Our Aquatic Research and Conservation Centre, where we train aquarists of the future. The Facility includes tropical aquaculture systems, research facilities and ornamental marine and freshwater aquaria. Our Salmonid Rearing and Trials Centre, which includes a salmonid hatchery and on-growing unit, lab and fish processing area, and a trials unit with 72 tanks. This is a full-time position operating on a 365-day rota, including some weekend working (details discussed at interview).
What we’re looking for ✨The successful candidate will: Ideally have a minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject Strong practical skills Demonstrate experience in water quality, aquatic husbandry, record keeping and aquatic health monitoring Have excellent communication skills, a creative and flexible approach, and someone who can work well as part of a team of dedicated lecturers and technical staff. We would be particularly interested in candidates with an experience of salmonid nutrition research trials, or someone with the desire to develop their knowledge in this area to the level that they would be confident promoting research opportunities externally. In addition to overseeing the operation of the facilities, there may be opportunity for the postholder to contribute to the education of the next generation of aquarists by providing practical instruction and support to our students.
