Are you reliable, organised, and passionate about providing healthy, nutritious meals in a school environment? Dan Y Coed School is looking for a friendly and committed Catering Assistant to join our catering team and support the day-to-day delivery of a high-quality food service for our pupils and staff.
Dan Y Coed School is a specialist school in Swansea supporting children and young people with autism and complex needs. As part of our wider school community, the catering team plays a vital role in creating a positive, safe, and welcoming environment where pupils can thrive.
About the Role
As a Catering Assistant, youll support the preparation, service, and presentation of meals while maintaining high standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness. Working closely with the Catering Manager and school staff, youll help ensure lunchtime runs smoothly and pupils enjoy a positive dining experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting with food preparation, including basic items such as sandwiches, salads, vegetables, and desserts
- Serving meals to pupils, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
- Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, dining, and food service areas
- Washing utensils, crockery, and kitchen equipment
- Supporting stock control, deliveries, and safe food storage
- Following food safety, allergen awareness, HACCP, Health & Safety, and safeguarding procedures
- Setting up and clearing dining areas before and after service
- Supporting special events, themed days, and school functions when required
- Promoting healthy eating and positive behaviour during mealtimes
What Were Looking For
- A positive, reliable, and proactive approach to work
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Basic understanding of food hygiene and kitchen safety (or willingness to learn)
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment
- A friendly and respectful manner when working with children and colleagues
- Previous catering or kitchen experience is desirable but not essential
Qualifications & Training
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths desirable
- Full training provided, including Food Safety, Safeguarding, Health & Safety, and Allergen Awareness
