The Transport Provision team is currently recruiting for an Area Coordinator to support the team based in Chichester at Drayton Depot. The role of Area Coordinator is to oversee a team of Drivers, Passenger Assistants and School Crossing Patrol colleagues to ensure the teams can operate at the highest level and deliver the best service to our local communities. We are looking for someone that has significant experience in managing teams, can oversee the delivery of the service and can prioritise resources and workloads effectively.

The Opportunity
In this role you will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of services across the Chichester area. You will line manage a small team of Assistant and Transport Coordinators who are responsible for larges teams of remote staff. You will need to be able to motivate and support them with their learning and development. You will also manage employee relations caseloads and support the coordinators under your line management to resolve these accordingly.
Being able to manage a large remote team is vital and demonstratable knowledge of transport provision is a must too. It's also important to understand legislation around health and safety, road safety procedures and the highway code to ensure you can fully support your teams.
Regular travel around the county and outside work in sometimes inclement weather may be required.
About you
Some of the key skills, experience and knowledge required to be successful in the role include:
- Significant experience of managing an effective, efficient professional service to a range of customers.
- Ability to plan and manage resources to ensure the continual effectiveness of the Transport Provision and School Crossing Service.
- Problem Solving Skills and experience to investigate and resolve complaints.
- Strongly developed people and performance management skills to develop and motivate a team to achieve objectives and deadlines and support them when situations arise.
- Developed training skills to ensure staff have the skills and knowledge they need to deliver their service appropriately.
- Sound communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with the various stakeholders and build and maintain these working relationships.
- Understanding of the client group to assist with problem solving and pragmatic decisions that meets their expectations and allow us to deliver a good customer service.
- Experience of managing and overseeing budgets to ensure resources are deployed effectively.

About us
The Transport Provision Team is part of the Transport Co-ordination Department. The team plans and provides passenger transport solutions. These services are provided to eligible children and allows them to get to school which supports the bus network providing millions of bus journeys each year.
The Transport Provision Team provides specialist transport for people with special needs, using its own fleet of vehicles, many of which are fully accessible. The Transport Provision Team covers the whole of West Sussex and operates out of three bases in Chichester, Horsham and Worthing.
