Summary

Main duties and responsibilities
Provide money advice and/or detailed casework encompassing the full range of Money Advice tools, through a mixture of channels (face to face, telephone, digital etc.)
Explore options and implications to enable the client to make informed decisions.
Carry out income maximisation activities through identification of appropriate benefits and other financial assistance.
Give information and advice to clients to empower them to act on their own behalf where appropriate, and enable them to identify priority and non-priority debts, negotiate realistic repayment plans with creditors or apply other debt solutions relevant to them.
Refer clients as appropriate to other internal/external services in line with Money Advice Guidelines.
Act for the client, where necessary, by calculating, negotiating, and acting on debts, including offering advice on remedies such as disputed debts, debt relief orders, bankruptcy and other informal debt management plans.
Ensure income maximisation through identification of and applications for appropriate benefits or application for other financial assistance.
Maintain case records to required quality standards.
Conduct casework management such as case reviews, meeting deadlines, closure of cases etc.
Maintain agreed monitoring and outcome information for commissioning agencies and internal management purposes.
Statistical recording, record keeping and document production.
Provide cover as appropriate for other members of the Money Advice Team who may be absent.
Targets
Meet targets as set by Money Advice Service Manager in line with Funder requirements.
Provide all statistical information required in a timely manner to comply with reporting requirements.
Provide case studies as required.
Keep the Money Advice Service Manager informed of any difficulties in meeting set targets.
Comply with any instructions to change targets or reporting requirements as necessary.
Research and Campaigning
Contribute to both local and national campaigns where appropriate.
Raise and submit evidence forms where client circumstances fit with campaigns.
Raise with clients (after consultation with line manager) the possibility of their involvement in campaigns.
Professional Development and Training
Undertake all necessary training to qualify/keep up to date with legislation, case law and policies and procedures relating to Money Advice and undertake appropriate training in order to comply with contractual CPD requirements.
Attend relevant internal and external meetings as agreed with the Money Advice Service Manager.
Read relevant publications.
Prepare for and attend supervision and annual review meetings.
Ensure mandatory training is completed within required deadlines.
Attend internal and external training as may be necessary to carry out your duties.

Other duties and responsibilities

Uphold the aims and principles of the Citizens Advice service and its equal opportunities policies.
Keep up to date with policies and procedures relevant to the organisation and undertake appropriate training.
Abide by Health and Safety guidelines and share responsibility for your own safety and that of colleagues.
Be able to accommodate reasonable changes in working hours in order to meet the needs of the business.
Any other duties as required to ensure the effective provision of the service.

Trained or willing to train in Specialist Debt Advice work and related areas.
Skilled and experienced in use of IT and content management systems.
Ability to plan, prioritise own work, meet deadlines and manage caseload.
Ability to work to targets in a pressurised environment whilst monitoring and maintaining standards.
Effective written and oral communication skills with particular emphasis on negotiations.
Understanding of the issues involved in interviewing vulnerable and highly stressed clients.
Experienced and effective team-worker with a flexible approach.
Ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information.
