Job Introduction

We are seeking a detail-oriented and governance-driven Business Compliance Officer to ensure full statutory and contractual compliance across the HMRC West estate, supporting services delivered to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

This is a critical assurance role within a complex, multi-site public sector contract where compliance excellence underpins operational continuity, contractual performance and reputational protection.

The Business Compliance Officer provides governance, monitoring and assurance that all engineering and Facilities Management activities meet:

  • Statutory legislation
  • Regulatory requirements
  • Industry standards
  • Contractual obligations
  • Organisational policies

You will maintain compliance registers, track statutory inspections, coordinate audits and ensure all documentation is accurate, complete and audit-ready.

Working closely with operational teams and supply chain partners, you will proactively identify risks, prevent breaches and embed a strong culture of safety and regulatory adherence aligned to Sodexo’s Zero Harm Mindset.

 Whatyou’lldo:

  • Ensure full compliance with statutory regulations, contractual obligations and governance standards.
  • Monitor and track statutory inspections, testing, certifications and audits.
  • Maintain compliance registers and evidence logs, ensuring all records are accurate and audit-ready.
  • Review and verify compliance documentation across all regulated disciplines.
  • Conduct compliance audits and site inspections, identifying gaps and implementing corrective actions.
  • Liaise with operational teams, contractors and service providers to ensure compliance tasks are completed to required standards.
  • Prepare compliance dashboards and reports for senior leadership and client representatives.
  • Support incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective action tracking.
  • Monitor KPIs, SLAs and statutory deliverables, escalating risks promptly.
  • Coordinate internal and external audit responses, ensuring timely and accurate evidence submission.
  • Support continuous improvement of compliance processes and governance controls.
  • Provide guidance and training to operational teams on compliance requirements.
  • Promote adherence to health, safety and environmental legislation.

The Environment

HMRC West operates within a highly regulated government environment across multiple sites with diverse and critical infrastructure.

Key compliance areas include:

  • Electrical safety
  • Gas safety
  • Fire safety
  • Water hygiene
  • Lifting equipment
  • Pressure systems

Primary focus areas:

  • Managing multiple statutory regimes across a diverse asset base
  • Ensuring inspections, certifications and remedial actions are completed on time
  • Maintaining robust, auditable documentation
  • Identifying early risk indicators and preventing statutory breaches
  • Preparing for internal, client and external audits
  • Confidently challenging non-compliance where required

What you bring:

  • Strong knowledge of statutory compliance requirements within Facilities Management or Technical Services.
  • Understanding of key compliance areas including electrical, gas, fire, water hygiene and lifting equipment regulations.
  • Working knowledge of health & safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Understanding of audit processes and compliance governance.

Experience

  • Experience in a compliance, audit or technical governance role within Hard FM.
  • Experience maintaining compliance registers and document control systems.
  • Experience preparing reports and dashboards for senior stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting statutory audits and inspections.
  • Experience using CAFM/CMMS systems.

Skills

  • High attention to detail and strong analytical capability.
  • Excellent organisational and documentation control skills.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and translate it into operational requirements.
  • Confident communicator able to challenge non-compliance constructively.
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office, reporting tools, CAFM systems).
  • Ability to manage multiple compliance streams across multi-site environments.

Desirable

  • IOSH qualification or equivalent health & safety certification.
  • Experience working within public sector or government contracts.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards relating to compliance or asset management.
  • Experience supporting external regulatory audits.
  • Experience developing compliance dashboards or performance metrics.
