Summary

Responsible to: Nursery Management team and room leader
Purpose of the role It is the Nursery Practitioners duty to participate in the daily supervision of the room in accordance with the requirement of company policies, and other relevant legislation; and all local authority and Ofsted requirements.
The Nursery Practitioner role is to provide a stimulating, safe and caring environment for all children, promoting equality and diversity at all times.
Main duties and responsibilities
● To ensure that paperwork is completed and monitored within the room effectively. Ensure that daily paperwork such as written observations, planning, learning journeys are relevant, linked to the EYFS and kept up to date on a weekly basis.
● Ensure parent partnerships are maintained and the parent board is being used and changed daily. Communicate clearly and effectively with parents / carers sharing relevant information ensuring quality handovers. Ensure that you show an approachable, inviting, positive and involving demeanour towards all who enter a room.
● To liaise with colleagues when finishing a shift, advising them of any information that is to be relayed to parents when the child is collected or dropped off at nursery. It is paramount that information shared to other colleagues is on a need to know basis, respecting confidentiality. Ensuring confidentiality of information of a child / family / circumstances or other colleagues is kept confidential in and out of the setting. You should maintain regular communication with colleagues and other key people in the nursery.
● Ensure your working practice is to a high standard.
● Ensure relevant paperwork is in place prior to new child starting the setting if you are the child’s key person.
● It should be your priority to safeguard children and their well being. Knowing how to log a concern to the correct person and follow safeguarding procedures is paramount.
● Timekeeping is paramount, and it is essential that you are here five minutes prior to starting your shift. Also flexibility with regard to working in different rooms and/or settings as and when required to ensure effective operation of the nursery. You must attend all out of hours activities: staff meetings, training, parents evenings, nursery events.
● To undertake certain domestic jobs within the nursery, e.g. preparation of meals, snacks cleansing of equipment, putting out bins, cleaning if/ when needed. etc
● Presentation of your rooms needs to be of a high standard at all times, coinciding with the EYFS seven areas of learning. Remembering your presentation is exemplary and correct uniform must be worn at all times. Rooms need to be kept neat, clear and organised.
Training to be Provided

Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. They will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.
You will be working towards the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship standard, which includes:
• Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
• Functional skills in Maths and English if required
This will be delivered by your dedicated training provider, Realise.
