We have a fantastic new prospect for a Grade 4 Teaching Assistant to join our extensive support team at Cardiff West CHS. The successful post holder must be an excellent communicator both written and orally, possess strong IT skills and be confident in supporting for those with Additional Learning Needs on both an individual and small group basis. This support will vary across mainstream subjects but also within our behaviour and nurture provision classes. We welcome applications from those with a previous background of youth work or mentoring. The successful candidate will
• Support pupils who require additional help to secure key numeracy and mathematical skills.
• Deliver targeted interventions that close gaps in learning and build pupil confidence.
• Work alongside class teachers to ensure pupils make measurable progress.
Key Responsibilities
• Run small group and 1:1 numeracy intervention sessions focused on core skills such as number sense, place value, arithmetic fluency, reasoning, and problem solving.
• Use diagnostic assessments to identify gaps and tailor support to individual needs.
• Reinforce classroom learning through structured practice, modelling, and scaffolded tasks.
• Track pupil progress using school systems and provide clear feedback to teachers and ALNCO.
• Adapt explanations and activities to suit different learning styles and abilities.
• Prepare and organise resources for intervention sessions.
• Promote positive attitudes towards maths, helping pupils develop resilience and confidence.
• Support behaviour for learning and maintain a calm, focused intervention.
