Summary
Community Engagement Manager
Communications & Engagement Directorate
Permanent
£44,075 - £48,226
Your role:
Would you like to work with the community and voluntary sector and help to grow the reuse and repair sector? Are you passionate about the environment and want an opportunity to work on the largest waste and recycling contract in the UK? In Greater Manchester we're already recycling over 50% of household waste and sending less than 1% to landfill. But we're also home to the largest repair and reuse operation in the UK, the Renew Hub. The Hub is designed to tackle waste, reduce consumption, and promote the circular use of materials by repairing, refurbishing, and reselling pre-loved household items that would otherwise go to waste.
The revenue funds local charities and community projects through two guaranteed annual charitable donations. £200k every year is guaranteed to the Renew Community Fund which supports local community group projects like bike repair and tool libraries, creating long-term behavioural change and fostering community engagement. So far this totals £1.1million to 110 community groups.
This is a chance to help shape a new role in the team overseeing the already popular Renew Community Fund. You will be the point of contact for the community fund, liaising with the funds administrator, meeting groups face to face, and collating reports.
You will also establish strong networks with the local councils we work with and the Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise sector (VCFSE) creating a network that helps the projects to succeed.
About you:
You will be a good communicator, able to effectively engage with the community as well as provide regular updates and reports to Senior Managers, Councillors and Council officers.
You will have effective skills in developing key relationships with individuals and groups in the community as well as with key stakeholders at the nine councils, GMCA and our waste contractor; SUEZ.
This role would suit someone who can organise their own time, managing multiple projects making sure they meet deadlines. You will be working in a large team so you can take advantage of the opportunity to share ideas and collaborate on projects.
You will need to travel around the nine councils of Greater Manchester to regularly visit projects and meet up with the community groups.
This role would suit someone who cares about their local community or is interested in learning more about the waste and recycling industry.
