Summary
Specialist Occupational Therapist (Post‑16) - East London
Location: East London
Working Pattern: On‑site
Contract Type: Temporary / Ad‑Hoc
Pay Rate: from £35 per hour
We are seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to support a Local Authority in East London by completing specialist OT assessments for post‑16 learners undergoing the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) process. You will provide clear, functional, and outcome‑focused EHCP advice, working closely with colleges, families, SEND teams, and wider professionals to inform high‑quality decision‑making.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete statutory occupational therapy assessments for young people aged 16+ as part of the EHCNA process.
- Deliver timely, detailed, and measurable EHCP recommendations with a focus on functional skills, participation, and independence.
- Work collaboratively with colleges, families, BCIT, SEN Assessment Teams, and other multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Contribute to annual reviews where appropriate, offering professional insight into functional needs and reasonable adjustments.
- Maintain accurate, compliant clinical documentation and uphold all safeguarding requirements.
Requirements
- BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy.
- HCPC registration (essential).
- Minimum 2 years' post‑qualification OT experience, ideally including work with adolescents or young adults with SEND.
- Experience assessing functional, sensory, and environmental needs within education settings.
- Strong skills in assessment, clinical reasoning, report writing, and translating findings into practical EHCP outcomes.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service.
- Professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Desirable Skills / Experience
- Experience working in further education, specialist colleges, mainstream settings, or alternative provision.
- Knowledge of sensory integration, fine and gross motor development, environmental adaptations, life skills, or functional independence.
- Experience delivering training to education staff or families (e.g. , sensory strategies, functional skills support).
- Membership of professional bodies such as RCOT.

- Consultancy role with flexible working arrangements.
- Travel to colleges or community settings across East London may be required.
