Summary
Education and Training Lead and oversee Training Needs Analyses, implementing agreed teaching programmes aligned to Trust objectives in partnership with Heads of Nursing. Develop, coordinate and deliver planned education programmes that meet the needs of multidisciplinary nursing and midwifery staff. Create and sustain a dynamic learning environment that strengthens clinical competence and supports practice development. Provide expert advice to staff on educational pathways, supporting achievement of personal development and appraisal objectives. Manage and monitor the CPD budget, ensuring equitable access, accurate reporting and timely submission of financial data. Promote research awareness and evidence based practice, supporting engagement with approved research activity and innovation. Work collaboratively with Kings Academy, HEI partners and the Learning and Organisational Development Team to expand specialist courses and apprenticeship opportunities. Support Practice Assessors, Supervisors, mentors and preceptors to maximise learning opportunities across clinical areas. Represent senior nursing education at relevant internal and external meetings, deputising where required. Produce timely and accurate reports for Kings Academy, NHSE and funding bodies, ensuring compliance and transparency. Collaborate with educators and stakeholders to identify learning gaps and implement effective, practical solutions. Strategic Development Develop and review policies, processes and procedures that strengthen practice development and the growth of Kings Academy. Champion learning and education across all departments and wards, engaging effectively with internal teams and external partners including Kings Health Partners. Design and implement initiatives that enhance workforce development, support career progression and improve nursing retention. Act as an ambassador for Kings College Hospital, contributing to local and London wide health and organisational development agendas. Build and sustain national and international partnerships to extend educational delivery and collaboration. Identify and nurture internal talent, developing future educators and strengthening succession planning. Lead the Professional Nurse Advocate function across the Trust. Work in partnership with Practice Development Nurses and Midwives to advance service delivery and support their professional growth. People Management and Performance Lead, coach and manage the education team, promoting high performance, recognising excellence and addressing underperformance promptly and fairly. Set clear objectives through regular appraisal and supervision, ensuring robust development plans for all team members. Ensure full compliance with statutory, mandatory and professional training requirements across the team, including personal compliance. Manage workforce planning effectively, including recruitment, absence management, e-roster oversight and optimisation of productivity. Identify and nurture talent, supporting succession planning and internal career progression. Review and optimise skill mix and resource allocation, maintaining accurate and up to date role profiles. Promote staff wellbeing and foster a positive, inclusive culture with zero tolerance for bullying and harassment. Evaluate projects and service initiatives, implementing improvements and measuring both financial and non financial impact. Ensure accurate governance and reporting, including oversight of CPD expenditure and preparation of high quality progress and performance reports. Facilitate the sharing of best practice internally and externally, strengthening collaborative working across organisations. Clinical Responsibilities Maintain a strong and visible presence within clinical areas, acting as an accessible resource for staff and students. Demonstrate credible and effective clinical leadership, serving as a consistent professional role model. Sustain clinical proficiency, evidencing a broad range of expertise in patient management and complex care delivery. Remain actively engaged in continuing professional and practice development to maintain credibility and relevance. Provide individual guidance, supervision and professional support to nursing and midwifery staff where appropriate. Embed current evidence based practice and relevant research findings into clinical care to promote excellence. Maintain and enhance educational knowledge and skills to ensure high quality teaching and role effectiveness.
