About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled and forward‑thinking Data Engineer to lead the development of our data infrastructure and help shape the future of intelligence services across the organisation.

You will design and build data systems, improve data quality, and create scalable structures in AWS that support predictive analytics and insight. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the council, ensuring data is accessible, reliable and used effectively to support evidence‑based decision making.



What You’ll Do

The role involves designing, building and testing scalable data pipelines and systems in AWS that support extraction, transformation and advanced modelling, while maintaining a secure, resilient and accessible data architecture, including the organisation’s corporate landing zone and system updates. It requires ensuring strong data quality and governance by monitoring performance, safeguarding accuracy, integrity and security, overseeing metadata, and leading peer review and quality assurance processes.



The postholder will also drive innovation by actively exploring new tools and technologies, identifying the most valuable options for service needs, and promoting continuous improvement across all data processes, including enhancing data visibility, automation and self‑service solutions.

About You

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience of using AWS tools in data engineering or data architecture, with the ability to build robust data pipelines, manage large datasets and apply a solid understanding of data governance, modelling and data quality principles.

They will be a natural builder who enjoys creating effective systems, with curiosity for emerging tools and technologies and a clear sense of what innovations truly add value.

With strong problem‑solving skills and a commitment to continuous improvement, they will communicate complex concepts in plain language, build positive relationships across teams and confidently provide expert advice, challenge and support where needed.
