Join Field Studies Council Castle Head as a Seasonal Assistant Instructor / Tutor and help people connect with nature while gaining hands-on experience in outdoor education.

Permanent seasonal contract – based on an average 37.5 hours per week during the core season (normally March to November).

Your weekly hours will vary across the season, with more during busy periods and fewer in quieter weeks.

What you’ll be doing

Supporting outdoor learning experiences that develop confidence, teamwork, and environmental awareness.

Assisting with curriculum-linked fieldwork in Geography and Biology.

Maintaining equipment, vehicles, and learning spaces to high standards.

Contributing to centre duties, including welcoming groups, issuing equipment, and supporting independent courses.

Reflecting on feedback to help improve the quality of our Adventure Learning programmes.

Where you’ll be based
Castle Head sits at the southern gateway to the Lake District National Park, surrounded by 20 hectares of woodland, gardens, and open grounds. Who we’re looking for

Enthusiastic, proactive, and adaptable individuals who love being outdoors.

Experience or a keen interest in environmental and adventurous activities.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with learners of all ages and abilities.

Full driving licence with a willingness to drive our vehicles when required.

A commitment to personal development and learning new skills.
Desirable but not essential: NGB outdoor activity qualifications (ML, RCI, BCU Paddlesport) or a degree in Science, Geography, Environmental Studies, or related discipline.
