Summary

Carer /Support Worker

About the Direct Payment Holder A caring and reliable Carer is required to support a young boy with complex needs. This is a home-based role with opportunities to access the local community.

The 7.5-year-old boy is severely learning disabled, autistic, and pre-verbal/non-verbal. He communicates using objects of reference, PECS, hand guiding, and occasionally single words.

He requires continuous supervision at all times to ensure his safety.
He can experience challenging behaviours, particularly when tired or dysregulated. These may include hitting, pinching, pushing, attempts to bite, and destructive behaviour. He also struggles with sleep at night, which can affect daytime regulation.
He lives at home with two adults and 3 other children, (three older brothers aged 9, 12, and 13.)

Hours and rate of pay

£18.92 per hour (Self-Employed)
4 hours per week during school term time
8 hours per week during school holidays
Ideally weekends during term time, with a mix of weekdays/weekends during school holidays
Flexible shifts with prior arrangement

Location Welwyn Garden City (AL7).
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check
Right to Work and references will be needed.
Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:
• Safeguarding Adults
• Introduction to first aid
• Health and Safety

What you would be doing… Continuous supervision
Supporting with personal care (changing nappies/pull-ups/pads, cleaning, changing clothes)
Ensuring food and drink intake
Supporting communication using his preferred methods
Preventing access to unsafe items
Taking Louie out for walks, woodland walks, and community activities
Encouraging enjoyable and meaningful experiences


Required skills and experience Calm, confident, and patient
Experienced or knowledgeable in supporting autistic, severely learning-disabled, non/pre-verbal children
Comfortable providing personal care
Confident managing challenging behaviours safely and compassionately
Focused on keeping Louie safe, happy, and supported
Male or female applicants welcome
Ideally a car driver
