Summary
The role of the Early Years’ Business and Sufficiency Team is to:
- Lead and facilitate strategic development in relation to early years business, sufficiency and funding across the city, working with a range of partners
- Provide market management to secure sufficient registered childcare and education places
- Secure and fund early years provision which is free of charge to parents
- Provide advice and guidance to extended childcare provision for children beyond the age of 5 years.
- To provide childcare related advice to parents and carers.
Early years officers liaise with PVI providers, schools, parents/carers and other external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for young children.

We are seeking to appoint a motivated and passionate childcare practitioner to join our successful team within the Early Years’ Business, Sufficiency and Funding Team.
The purpose of this role is:
- To be responsible for working in partnership with Private, Voluntary, Independent (PVI) providers, out of school provision, childminders, and schools, offering targeted support in relation to before, after school and holiday provision and early education entitlement places.
- To support the Early Years Business, Sufficiency and Funding Team to meet the Local Authorities statutory duties regarding sufficiency and sustainability in before, after school, holiday and early years provision.
- The postholder will work in before and after school providers, early years settings and schools across the city. They will work alongside senior officers within the Early Years’ Business, Sufficiency and Funding Team, supporting the delivery of the Local Authorities statutory duty for early years

The successful candidate will work with existing and prospective early years providers, as well as before‑ and after‑school providers, to support the delivery of sufficient, sustainable, high‑quality childcare. The role will focus on increasing childcare places in areas where gaps have been identified, ensuring that provision meets the needs and demand of families.
This role involves providing support to wraparound providers in relation to the governments ambition to ensure all school aged children have access to a high-quality before, after school or holiday place should they need one.

They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to provide challenges in a way that facilitates change, whilst sustaining positive relationships and engagement. The post would suit a senior early year’s or childcare practitioner, teacher or current adviser who has proven leadership experience and has worked beyond their own organisation in providing support, advice and training.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge, skills and experiences related to the job description and person specification.
