Summary

VolkerRail is a leading multidisciplinary railway infrastructure contractor which comprises of two businesses: Major Projects and Specialist Businesses.

Major Projects is an expert in collaborative working, leading on large, multidisciplinary joint venture and alliance projects.

Specialist Businesses is made up of expert divisions in signalling, track, power, electrification, and piling, and has an in-house plant division and bespoke design teams.

Our Head office is based in J3 Business Park, Doncaster and provides support to the businesses in the following areas: Finance and Payroll, Human Resources, HSQES, Work Winning, Procurement and Fleet.

Join VolkerRail's high‑performing Finance Team as a Business Accountant and play a key role in driving commercial performance during an exciting period of growth. This 18‑month fixed‑term contract comes with a possibility to become permanent.

You'll own accurate financial reporting, deliver sharp analysis, and partner with senior leaders to influence strategic decisions. From budgeting and forecasting to cash‑flow management and process improvement, you'll be central to strengthening the organisation's financial position.

Please note that this is an 18 month fixed term contract based out of our Doncaster office.

About our role

  • Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Manage general ledger activity and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Deliver clear, actionable financial insights to senior stakeholders
  • Produce cash‑flow reporting and support treasury processes
  • Build financial models and scenario analyses
  • Support audits and drive process improvements

About you

  • ACCA / ACA / CIMA qualification
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role in accounting, finance, or analysis
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge
  • Advanced Excel and excellent analytical skills
  • High attention to detail and strong problem‑solving ability
  • Confident communicator able to translate finance for non‑finance teams

Desirable

  • Rail or infrastructure sector experience
  • Exposure to automation, digital finance tools, or system enhancements
  • Strong commercial awareness
