Summary
Job Purpose To deliver safe, effective and patient-centred pre-hospital care across NHS-commissioned 999 emergency response services and specialist operational deployments. The post holder will operate as an autonomous HCPC-registered Paramedic within their scope of practice, maintaining high standards of clinical care, documentation, professionalism and governance. The role also includes supporting the development of Newly Qualified Paramedics and other clinicians through positive role modelling and constructive guidance. Clinical Responsibilities Respond to NHS 999 emergency calls on behalf of the ambulance service. Undertake comprehensive patient assessment, clinical examination and formulation of appropriate care plans. Deliver evidence-based interventions in line with JRCALC guidance and organisational policies. Manage a wide range of medical, trauma and time-critical presentations within scope of practice. Determine appropriate conveyance and non-conveyance decisions, clearly documenting clinical rationale. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and multidisciplinary professionals. Maintain patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality at all times. Recognise and escalate clinical concerns appropriately. Medicines Management Administer medicines safely in accordance with legislation, JRCALC and organisational policy. Ensure medicines are checked, stored, secured and recorded appropriately. Conduct daily medication checks and report discrepancies immediately. Maintain controlled drug accountability in line with legal and organisational requirements. Vehicle & Equipment Responsibilities Conduct full pre-use vehicle, equipment and safety checks at the start of each shift. Maintain operational readiness of vehicles, equipment and clinical supplies throughout duty. Report mechanical defects or equipment failures promptly. Use ZOLL X-Series cardiac monitoring equipment competently and in accordance with training. Maintain infection prevention standards within vehicles and clinical areas. Documentation & Clinical Governance Complete accurate, contemporaneous and clinically sound Patient Report Forms (PRFs). Ensure documentation clearly evidences assessment findings and decision-making. Participate in PRF audit, case review and reflective practice processes. Comply with CQC standards, national regulatory frameworks and organisational policies. Participate in incident reporting, safety investigations and learning responses where required. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and service development. Safeguarding Responsibilities Identify and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns involving children or adults at risk. Escalate safeguarding concerns in line with organisational policy and statutory guidance. Complete safeguarding documentation accurately and in a timely manner. Maintain up-to-date safeguarding training as required. Infection Prevention & Control Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) policies at all times. Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Maintain high standards of cleanliness and decontamination of vehicles and equipment. Participate in IPC audits and training as required. Professional Responsibilities Act in accordance with HCPC Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics. Maintain HCPC registration and fulfil ongoing CPD requirements. Keep up to date with all statutory and mandatory training requirements. Maintain high standards of professionalism, conduct and appearance. Support and encourage Newly Qualified Paramedics and developing clinicians through informal mentorship and professional guidance. Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of practice. Health & Safety Comply with all health and safety policies and procedures. Operate safely within emergency driving conditions where qualified. Identify and report hazards or risks promptly. Participate in risk assessments and dynamic risk management during incidents. Accountability The post holder is professionally accountable for their clinical practice within their scope of competence and will work under the clinical governance framework of Echo Fire and Medical Ltd. Working Conditions The role involves shift work, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. Clinicians will operate across frontline emergency response, critical care transfers, event medical deployments and specialist operations. The role requires the ability to work in physically and emotionally demanding environments, including exposure to traumatic incidents.
