Job Description
The Assistant Site Manager supports the Site Manager to ensure the smooth running of construction projects on site. This role involves overseeing daily operations, maintaining health and safety standards, and ensuring that work is completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The Assistant Site Manager liaises with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients, coordinates site activities, and assists with the management of site resources.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist in planning, organising, and controlling site activities to meet project deadlines and specifications.
• Monitor site progress and report on delays, issues, or risks to the Site Manager.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting regular site inspections and promoting a safe working environment.
• Coordinate the delivery and storage of materials and equipment on site.
• Supervise subcontractors and site operatives, ensuring work is performed to the required standard.
• Support the Site Manager in managing site documentation, including daily reports, site diaries, and risk assessments.
• Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders, including clients, architects, and engineers.
• Assist in resolving on-site issues promptly to minimise disruption.
• Ensure environmental considerations and site housekeeping standards are upheld at all times.
• Support quality control processes and assist with inspections and snagging activities.
Required Qualifications
• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) certification.
• Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.
• Valid First Aid qualification.
• Full, clean driving licence.
Experience
• Demonstrable experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
• Experience working on commercial or residential construction sites.
• Proven ability to manage site activities and coordinate teams effectively.
Knowledge and Skills
• Strong understanding of construction processes, methods, and materials.
• Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to construction sites.
• Effective organisational and time management skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with various stakeholders.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
• Problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Competency in using basic IT applications for reporting and documentation.
Working Conditions
The role requires regular attendance on construction sites in varying weather conditions.
