Summary
The successful applicant will rotate through three different clinical areas: oncology and haematology inpatients (including neuro-oncology, leukaemia and non-malignant haematology), day care and outpatients. Trainee supervision includes twice weekly consultant-led ward rounds; solid tumour, neuro-oncology, haematology, psychosocial, neuro-rehabilitation and TYA MDTs; an attending consultant system for in-patient care and new patient referrals; and a weekly supervised chemotherapy prescribing session. Induction includes supervision in bone marrow sampling, safe chemotherapy prescribing and handling and accredited training in prescription and administration of intrathecal chemotherapy. Out-patient clinics include general and neuro-oncology, leukaemia, non-malignant haematology, combined neuro-oncology / endocrine and neuro-oncology / ophthalmology and late effects / long term follow up. Depending on experience and training the successful applicant will be expected to run their own outpatient clinics with consultant supervision. Occasional participation at regional shared care clinics is encouraged. The basic post has no out of hours commitment and is for 40 hours, but there is an option to work longer days up to 48 hours with additional payment after discussion. Experienced applicants may also have the opportunity to undertake weekend day-time on call work with consultant supervision if they wish to increase their out of hours experience to support a CESR application as to gain experience prior to taking a consultant post
