At National Highways, we're looking for a Structures Inspector to join our team based in the South West.

As a Structures Inspector, you'll be responsible for completing inspections of non-complex highways assets (Bridges, Retaining Walls, Culverts, Sign Gantries), in line with agreed inspections schedules, procedures and standards, raising appropriate works and undertaking checks on the quality and quantity of maintenance work. You'll also collect data to inform prioritisation and development of maintenance schemes.

Following training and competency assessment, in this role you will have on-call duty responsibilities where you will attend incidents on site and provide advice as required.

Please note that you will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need to have no more than 3 points to be considered for this position and during employment.

  • Deliver cyclical and ad-hoc inspections of non-complex highway assets, identify defects, defect causes and options for remedial actions
  • Document asset condition and all inspection findings, including monitoring inspections, in relevant systems in line with agreed standards, ensuring asset data is up to date and correct
  • Contribute to development of the inspections programme and support Senior Inspectors and Inspection Manager in planning activities. For example, arranging road space, creating orders for suppliers, producing specifications for the procurement of monitoring, investigation and other special inspections of structures
  • Liaise with engineering teams and support the development of maintenance and investment plans and prioritisation by gathering adequate data
  • Complete reports, technical drawings and studies to support inspection findings and asset condition information management

About you.
