Summary
We believe that great leadership needs great support which is why we highly value our Business Support team of professional administrators who support our Executive Managers in the Environment & Business Directorate (E&B). We also believe that high-quality line management for our PAs is equally important.
Our Business Support team of 27 PAs is currently led by two G6 Team Leaders. The team has grown over the last couple of years as E&B has invested in its leadership capacity at Executive Manager level. Following a successful trial, we wish to make this role permanent so we have the required capacity to support the team to flourish and grow and deliver excellent customer service. This creates an opportunity for the right person to join our leadership team.
There are two parts to the role. One is line management. We’re looking for someone who understands the importance of excellent professional administration and who values and will champion the professional administration community. We need someone who can manage competing demands and expectations and has the people skills to establish strong relationships with team members and executive manager customers.
Alongside line management, the successful applicant will manage and deliver a portfolio of business improvement activities related to professional administration such as skills and career development, and other continuous improvement business activities in line with the mission of our wider team.
If you have these qualities and you understand, value and will champion the professional administration community, then you may be the person we are looking for.
The Environment Agency are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it, and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities, and our environment.
The team
You’ll join our Change Implementation Team. Alongside our professional administration support service for Executive Managers, we lead on change management, innovation and continuous improvement for the Environment and Business Directorate.
We’re a friendly, geographically dispersed team who work with a wide range of technical and project teams across the country. In E&B we promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive culture where everyone feels valued.
Experience/skills required
We’re seeking someone with a proven track record of leading teams and line management experience who has strong people skills but is also business focussed and embraces innovation, challenges existing practices and can offer creative ideas to deliver business solutions.
Other important skills and experience to demonstrate in your capability-based answers are:
Working effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
The ability to build productive relationships
Customer skills, how you determine customer needs and how you meet and exceed customer expectations
Experience of working as part of a team and delivering results through others
A commitment to developing others and bringing out the best in people
A commitment to developing yourself and good self-awareness
Displaying good judgement and sound decision making skills.
You’ll have a range of development opportunities and appropriate training will be provided.
